Segments

Dynamic segmentation in Abelo allows you to target precise, behavioral audiences based on real-time customer purchase history, campaign engagement, consent status, and demographic attributes.

Unlike static lists, segments automatically evaluate customer qualifications, adding or removing profiles as orders are placed and customer actions evolve.

1. Overview

Segments provide the foundation for highly targeted, high-ROI marketing:

  • Automated Membership: Profiles enter and exit segments dynamically without manual list updates or CSV re-uploads.
  • Multi-Condition Logic: Combine multiple rules using AND and OR logic gates to isolate precise audience cohorts.
  • Cross-Channel Marketing: Use segments directly as recipient targets when scheduling Viber and SMS standard campaigns.

2. Pre-Built vs. Custom Segments

Navigate to Audience > Segments in the main sidebar. Abelo organizes segments into two tabs:

Pre-Built Segments

Pre-built segments are system-defined audiences generated automatically by Abelo out of the box:

  • Target common high-impact cohorts without needing to configure complex filters manually.
  • Automatically populated from your connected e-commerce store and messaging data.
  • System segments cannot be edited or deleted, ensuring continuous availability for campaign automation.

Custom Segments

Custom segments are tailored audiences designed specifically by your organization:

  • Build multi-rule filter combinations that reflect your unique business model, product categories, or marketing strategy.
  • Modify rule definitions at any time to refine audience size and targeting criteria.

3. Segmentation Filters & Criteria

Abelo provides a modular filter builder across multiple data dimensions:

Location & Profile Attributes

  • Country: Filter profiles by country (is or is not).
  • City: Filter profiles by city (is or is not).
  • Tags: Filter profiles containing specific customer metadata tags (is or is not).
  • Viber Marketing Consent: Target customers who accept (accepts) or do not accept (do_not_accept) Viber promotional marketing.
  • SMS Marketing Consent: Target customers who accept (accepts) or do not accept (do_not_accept) SMS promotional marketing.

E-Commerce Purchase Behavior

  • Lifetime Spending: Total spending across all orders (>, >=, <, <=, =).
  • Period Spending: Total spending within a defined timeframe (>, >=, <, <=, =).
  • Lifetime Orders Count: Cumulative order volume (>, >=, <, <=, =).
  • Period Orders Count: Order volume placed within a defined timeframe (>, >=, <, <=, =).
  • Last Order Date: Filter by when the customer last purchased (during last X days, on a date, or between date ranges).

Product & Collection Affinity

  • Product Purchased: Target profiles who purchased or did not purchase a specific product SKU.
  • Collection Purchased: Target profiles who purchased or did not purchase from a specific product collection or category.

Campaign Engagement & Delivery

  • Received Campaign: Target profiles who received or did not receive any campaign (or a specific campaign) within a timeframe.
  • Clicked Campaign: Target profiles who clicked or did not click a tracking link in any campaign (or a specific campaign) within a timeframe.

Timeframe Options

When filtering by recent activity, orders, or campaign engagement, you can define time windows using:

  • During Last: Floating window of the last X days (between 1 and 365 days).
  • On: Exact calendar date.
  • Between: Custom date range between two calendar dates.

4. Creating a Custom Segment

Follow these steps to build a new dynamic segment:

  1. Navigate to Audience > Segments.
  2. Select the Custom tab and click Add new Segment.
  3. Complete Basic Setup:
    • Name: Enter a descriptive name for your segment (e.g., High Spenders - Last 60 Days).
    • Description: Add internal notes describing the objective and targeting logic of this audience.
  4. Build Filter Rules:
    • Click Add Rule to select a filter category and define condition operators.
    • Combine multiple rules within a group using OR logic, or create distinct rule groups evaluated with AND logic.
  5. Click Save to create the segment. Abelo immediately evaluates your customer base against the defined criteria.

5. Viewing and Managing Segments

The Segments table displays all configured audiences:

  • Segment Name: Title and descriptive summary of the segment.
  • Last Updated: Date of the latest rule modification or evaluation.
  • Actions:
    • Create Campaign: Launch a new Viber or SMS campaign targeted directly at this segment.
    • View Details: Open the segment details page to inspect rule definitions and audience metadata.

Modifying and Deleting Segments

  • Edit Segment: Custom segments can be edited at any time to adjust filter conditions, update timeframes, or refine targeting.
  • Delete Segment: Custom segments can be deleted from the segment details page. Pre-built system segments are permanent and cannot be deleted.
