Viber Campaigns

Viber Business Messages provide an engaging, high-trust messaging experience featuring official brand sender IDs, verified checkmarks, multimedia image banners, interactive action buttons, and multi-card carousels.

In Abelo, you can deploy Viber campaigns through two operating modes:

  • Standard Campaigns: Scheduled or immediate promotional campaigns sent to targeted audience lists, segments, or broadcast.
  • API Campaigns: Programmatic endpoints triggered on-demand via REST API for transactional alerts, OTP passcodes, or triggered offers.

1. Viber Channel Capabilities

Viber Business Messages offer rich visual and interactive messaging options:

Message Formats

Format Description Key Features & Restrictions
Text Only Formatted text message with an optional action button. Up to 1,000 characters, full emoji and regional alphabet support. Allowed for OTP, Transactional, and Promotional categories.
Image High-resolution visual banner paired with text body and action button. JPG/PNG image URL, up to 1,000 characters of accompanying text, and a primary CTA button. Allowed for Promotional campaigns only.
Carousel Interactive horizontal slider containing multiple visual cards (up to 10 cards). Each card features an image banner, bold title, primary action button, and an optional secondary button. Allowed for Promotional campaigns only.

Action Button Types

Buttons on Viber messages can be configured with one of two interactive actions:

  • Open URL: Directs the customer to a destination website, landing page, or product catalog. Abelo automatically wraps URLs in branded shortlinks to track individual clicks and attribute orders.
  • Call Phone: Dials a phone number directly in international E.164 format (e.g., +302101234567) for customer support or reservation lines.

2. Standard Viber Campaigns (One-off)

Standard campaigns are used to send marketing promotions to your customer audience.

To create a new standard Viber campaign:

  1. Navigate to Campaigns > Standard in the main sidebar.
  2. Click Create new Campaign and select New Viber Campaign.

Step 1: Setup & Audience

  • Campaign Name: Enter an internal administrative name (e.g., Spring Sale VIP Launch).
  • Failover to SMS: Enable this toggle to automatically route messages via SMS if the recipient cannot be reached on Viber within the delivery window.
    • If enabled, select an authorized SMS Sender ID from your registered senders.
  • Audience Selection: Select your target recipient group:
    • Broadcast: Dispatches to all active, consented subscribers in your organization.
    • List: Targets a specific static contact list (Lists).
    • Segment: Targets a dynamic, rule-based audience (Segments).

Step 2: Content Composition

  • Select Message Format: Choose between Text, Image, or Carousel.
  • Message Copy: Compose your message text. Insert dynamic variable tokens ({{first_name}}, {{discount_code}}) to personalize each message.
  • Call-to-Action Buttons: Add action buttons with destination URLs or telephone numbers.
  • Fallback SMS Content (if SMS failover is enabled):
    • Compose the fallback SMS text message.
    • Select character encoding: GSM-7 (standard Latin) or Unicode.
    • Monitor the real-time SMS segment counter to optimize character usage.
  • AI Assistant: Use the built-in AI copywriting assistant to generate message variations, adjust tone, or shorten text to fit segment boundaries.
  • Live Device Preview: Use the interactive mockup on the right side to toggle between Viber and SMS preview modes.
  • Test Campaign:
    • Toggle on the Test Campaign switch to dispatch realistic test messages to up to 5 verified phone numbers in international E.164 format.
    • Verify layout rendering, dynamic variable replacements, and button click links on physical mobile devices.
    • Test messages are billed against your balance and create temporary profiles with marketing consent disabled.

Step 3: Delivery Configuration

  • Delivery Type:
    • Send Now: Initiates dispatch immediately upon campaign confirmation.
    • Schedule Campaign: Sets a specific future date and time for automated dispatch. Scheduled campaigns execute according to your organization's configured timezone.
    • Save as Draft: Saves configuration progress without queuing the campaign.
  • Viber Maximum Delivery Period (TTL): Define how long Viber attempts to deliver the message to unreachable devices (between 30 seconds and 48 hours / 172,800 seconds). Default is typically 1 hour (3,600 seconds).
  • SMS Maximum Delivery Period (TTL): If SMS failover is enabled, specify the carrier validity period for the fallback SMS message (between 30 seconds and 48 hours).

Step 4: Review & Test Campaign

  • Configuration Summary: Review audience selections, content elements, button destination URLs, and delivery schedules.
  • Launch Campaign: Click Send Now or Schedule Campaign to finalize.

3. Standard Campaign Performance & Reporting

Once a campaign transitions to Sent, open its detail page to inspect comprehensive performance metrics:

Delivery & Engagement Breakdown

  • Delivery Rate: Percentage and count of messages successfully delivered to handsets.
  • Seen Rate: Percentage and count of delivered messages opened and viewed by recipients in the Viber app.
  • Click Rate: Total and unique link clicks tracked across buttons and links.
  • Channel Routing Breakdown: If SMS failover was active, visual charts distinguish between messages delivered directly via Viber versus those delivered via fallback SMS.

Revenue Attribution & Unit Economics

If an e-commerce store is connected:

  • Attributed Revenue: Total sales revenue generated by recipients who clicked the campaign within the attribution window.
  • Attributed Orders: Number of completed store purchases directly attributed to the campaign.
  • Average Order Value (AOV): Average cart size of attributed orders.
  • Return on Investment (ROI): Net revenue generated divided by total messaging spend (Revenue / Cost).

Managing Sent & Scheduled Campaigns

  • Duplicate Campaign: Clone an existing sent campaign with one click to resend to a new audience or reuse creative assets.
  • Edit Scheduled Campaign: Modify message content, audience targeting, or scheduled dispatch times prior to execution.
  • Cancel / Delete Campaign: Cancel scheduled broadcasts or remove draft campaigns.

4. API Viber Campaigns (Triggered via API)

API campaigns allow backend applications, checkout engines, and microservices to send personalized, one-to-one messages programmatically through the Messages Send API.

Creating an API Viber Campaign

  1. Navigate to Campaigns > API in the main sidebar.
  2. Click Create new Campaign and select New Viber Campaign.
  3. Configure campaign parameters:
    • Campaign Name: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., API Order Confirmation Viber).
    • Category: Select the regulatory category matching your use case:
      • OTP: Security authentication codes (requires pre-approved OTP template containing {{pin}}).
      • Transactional: Order notifications, receipts, and account alerts (requires pre-approved Transactional template).
      • Promotional: Triggered marketing offers (requires pre-approved Promotional template).
    • Viber Template: Select an approved message template (Templates) matching your category.
    • Maximum Delivery Period (TTL): Specify how long Viber attempts to deliver the message (30 seconds to 48 hours).
    • Failover to SMS (optional): Enable fallback routing to SMS. If enabled, select an authorized SMS Sender ID, an approved SMS Template, and specify the SMS TTL.
  4. Click Save to create the campaign.

Status Management

API campaigns operate under a continuous status model:

  • Draft: Initial configuration state. API dispatches are rejected.
  • Active: The endpoint is live and accepting API requests.
  • Paused / Stopped: Temporarily halted. The system rejects incoming API calls with a 400 Bad Request response, preventing accidental customer messaging during maintenance.

You can toggle an API campaign between Active and Paused at any time using the action button in the Campaigns > API table.

5. Triggering API Viber Campaigns

To trigger an API Viber Campaign, refer to Triggering API Campaigns for detailed information.

6. API Campaign Performance & Reporting

Once an API campaign is created and transitions out of Draft status, navigate to Campaigns > API and click on your campaign to access its real-time analytics dashboard and configuration details.

Campaign Overview

The overview card displays the campaign's structural configuration and metadata:

  • Status: Visual indicator showing whether the campaign is currently Active, Paused, Draft, or Stopped.
  • Public ID: The unique alphanumeric identifier (campaign_id) required when triggering sends via the API. Use the copy icon to copy it to your clipboard.
  • Channel & Category: Confirms the channel (Viber, or Viber and SMS if failover is enabled) and regulatory categorization (OTP, Transactional, or Promotional).
  • Assigned Templates: Shows the Viber template and, if failover is enabled, the fallback SMS template.
  • Maximum Delivery Period (TTL): Displays the configured delivery validity window for Viber (and fallback SMS if enabled).

Real-Time Performance Metrics

As programmatic requests are processed, the dashboard calculates live performance and engagement metrics:

  • Profiles Targeted: Total count of unique recipient profiles targeted by incoming API requests.
  • Messages Delivered & Delivery Rate:
    • Total Delivered: Total count of messages confirmed delivered to handsets.
    • Delivery Rate: Percentage of targeted messages successfully delivered.
    • Messaging Cost: Total accumulated spend for delivered messages.
    • Failover Channel Split: When SMS failover is active, shows the exact delivery volume split between channels (e.g., X Viber • Y SMS).
  • (Viber) Unique Opens & Open Rate:
    • Unique Opens: Number of recipients who opened and viewed the message within the Viber app.
    • Open Rate: Percentage of delivered Viber messages that were opened.
  • Unique Clicks & Click Rates:
    • Unique Clicks: Count of unique recipients who clicked at least one link or button in the message.
    • Click-Through Rate (CTR): Percentage of delivered messages that generated a click.
    • Click-to-Open Rate (CTOR): Percentage of opened Viber messages that resulted in a click.
    • Click Channel Breakdown: When SMS failover is active, indicates whether clicks originated from Viber or fallback SMS.

Interactive Preview & Editing

  • Live Phone Preview: An interactive device mockup renders the message with sample variable data. If SMS failover is active, use the tab switcher to toggle between the Viber and SMS previews.
  • Editing API Campaigns: Campaigns in Draft, Paused, or Stopped status can be modified by clicking Edit Campaign in the header. (Active campaigns must first be paused before editing).

7. How Automatic SMS Failover Works

When SMS failover is active on a Viber campaign:

  1. Initial Dispatch: Abelo transmits the message to the Viber network.
  2. Handset Verification:
    • If the recipient does not have an active Viber account, the Viber network reports the number as unregistered immediately.
    • If the recipient's phone is offline or without internet access, Viber holds the message in queue until the Maximum Delivery Period (TTL) expires.
  3. Automatic Fallback Trigger: Upon receiving an unregistered status or upon TTL expiry, Abelo's routing engine instantly composes and dispatches the fallback SMS using your selected SMS Sender and fallback template.
  4. Unified Reporting: Delivery reports reflect whether the message was delivered via Viber or fallback SMS, and billing charges correspond to the final delivery channel utilized.
